Unix Start Stop Maintenance

Unix Start/Stop Maintenance

Module:    Utilities

Overview

SBN uses some Unix procedures to run processes in the background. You may view Unix procedures in /ir/ins/command_library. If you run two machines, IBS recommends that you start all processes on both.

.cmd files

The Unix procedure filenames include the server name and the extension .cmd. You may view the .cmd procedures in the /ir/iwork/process/directory.

Note: If a procedure does not have a file that ends in .cmd, the process is not active on the server. Even if the process appears to be running, it will stop without a .cmd file.

The following are examples of these files:

  • servername_MAALGEN1.cmd

  • servername_MAALGEN2.cmd

  • servername_MATOC.cmd

q    Always run MATOC on both machines to prevent data contamination.

q    MATOC resets if idle more than 90 minutes (option).

  • servername_BGCLEAN.cmd

q    Always run BGCLEAN on both machines to prevent data contamination.

q    BGCLEAN deletes passcards and low rows.

  • servername_RW_SCHEDULER.cmd

Output Files

As each process starts, an output file is created.

Output File Names

Output file names include the server name and the extension .out. (The current output file is renamed with the date or the word old.) The following are examples of these file names:

  • servername_MAALGEN1.out

  • servername_MAALGEN2.out

  • servername_MATOC.out

  • servername_BGCLEAN.out

  • servername_RW_SCHEDULER.out

Output File Content

Output files display the command information about the start of the process. For example:

sql command started at 05.01.01 at 15:15:15

out.date File Names

As each process starts, an output file is created with the extension .out.date. The following are examples of these file names:

  • servername_MAALGEN1.out.050101

  • servername_MAALGEN2.out.050101

  • servername_MATOC.out.050101

  • servername_BGCLEAN.out.050101

  • servername_RW_SCHEDULER.out.050101

out.date File Content

.out.date files display information about the process activities. Below are examples:

  • ALGEN:
    GT 05/01/01 10:36:24 05/01/0110:36:24 CI/ZO/TY/SZ   7                                 -3
    SA      -3   7

  • MATOC:
    07:38:11 0 pro_oc_monitor started
    Tio: 05/01/01 6:09:00 Use/ms:150 Del/s:5352

  • BGCLEAN:
sql command started at 05.01.01; 14:49:15

Error Files

Error files begin with the abbreviation Msg, for example:

Msg 2812 Level 16, State 4:
Procedure ’r;pro_cp_bg_jobs’, Line 129:
Stored procedure ’r; ’r; not found. Specify owner.objectname or use sp_help to check whether the object exists (sp_help may produce much output). (return status = -6)

The Report Scheduler .out.out.old files also list the processes and errors, for example:

  • FINI /ir/iwork/report/ARNOLD rw report scheduler .9130
    REPORT START
    i run report 4 ub/softreq2 2831 sbnmaster ARNOLD

  • UX:lp: WARNING: Cannot access the file:

    a:/open.rpt.
TO FIX: Make sure file names are valid.

Stop SBN Processes

You may stop SBN processes for a specific server.

Note: You must LOGIN as sybase to run this command.

sbnoff

Usage: sbnoff server

Stops all SBN processes prior to a machine shutdown.

Parameters:

server

Server name.

To stop SBN processes for a specific server

   1.    Type the command sbnoff with the correct server name.

‰    A question appears: â€?Do you want to shutdown SBN processes on server XXXX? (y/n)â€?

   2.    If you choose â€?y,â€? the procedure will stop the following processes on the named server:

l       All ALGENs

l       The BGCleaner

l       The Open/Close Handler

l       The Report Scheduler

l       The Paging Scheduler

‰    A question appears: â€?Do you want to shut down COPYTASKS for server XXXX? (y/n)â€?

   3.    If you choose â€?yâ€?, the procedure will stop the following processes on the named server:

l    The data entry copytask

l    The monitoring copytask

l    The service copytask

‰    A question appears: â€?Do you want to shut down server XXXX? (y/n)â€?

   4.    If you answer â€?y,â€? the procedure will stop the named server.
