Overview

Use the Data Dictionary (program #1819) when you are developing reports or queries, or simply to better understand SBN. In Data Dictionary you can view

  • Tables

  • Table descriptions

  • Table fields

  • Field descriptions

  • Field types

  • Field lengths

  • Whether nulls are allowed

The Data Dictionary Window

The following graphic shows Data Dictionary as the program opens. The upper pane displays all tables used in SBN (except work tables and copytask tables).

Field/Column Descriptions

The following table describes the fields and columns used in Data Dictionary.

Field/Column

Description

Table

Name of the table.

Database

Name of the database where SBN stores this table.

Description

Text description of the table.

Chart Location

References the name of the data map chart that includes this table.

Zooming into Data Dictionary

Data Dictionary contains a sublevel tab in which you manage the fields included in a selected table.

The Fields Tab

The Fields tab displays a list of all the fields included in the selected table and their descriptions.

Field/Column Descriptions

The following table describes the fields and columns used in the Data Dictionary Fields tab.

Sybase or company-defined type

Length

Length of field, in bytes.

Allow Null

Enter a check mark in this field to allow null values.
