SQL Source Code

SBN_IR is the SVN tree the Compilers operate on. They expect a working copy on disk; the path goes in your SQL_SOURCE profile field.

Repository Access

The repository lives on Innovative's private network. To get the URL:

  1. Contact your Innovative point of contact.
  2. Request the SBN_IR SVN URL.
  3. Substitute the URL Innovative provides for <url> in the commands below.

Initial Checkout

Windows

Prerequisite: a Subversion command-line client (e.g. TortoiseSVN, SlikSVN) on your PATH.

svn checkout <url> $HOME\ir_local

Ubuntu (native or WSL) / macOS

Prerequisite: subversion installed (sudo apt install subversion on Ubuntu; brew install subversion on macOS).

svn checkout <url> ~/ir_local

Updating

From the working-copy root:

cd ~/ir_local # or cd $HOME\ir_local on Windows
svn update

If conflicts occur, resolve them per the standard SVN workflow and re-run svn update.

Optional — shell shortcut ($ir)

The Compilers do not require any environment variable. They read the working-copy path from SQL_SOURCE in your settings.json profile.

Some legacy Innovative scripts and create-files use the literal token $ir (e.g. runsql $1 $ir>css>ss>ba>foo). Inside create-files processed by runcreate, that token is substituted with your profile's SQL_SOURCE automatically — no env var needed.

If you want $ir to also work as a shell shortcut (so you can type cd $ir/css/ss/ba at the prompt), set it in your shell — this is purely a convenience and is most natural on bash:

echo 'export ir="$HOME/ir_local"' >> ~/.bashrc
source ~/.bashrc

On Windows PowerShell, the equivalent is to add a line like $ir = "$HOME\ir_local" to your PowerShell profile ($PROFILE). Most Windows users skip this and either use the literal path or tab completion.

Folders the Compilers Consume

  1. css/ — SQL source organized by application module (ss/ba/, ss/bl/, etc.) plus setup/ for options, table-locations, actions, messages.
  2. ibs/ — IBS application-layer SQL and configuration.

The repo also contains ios/ (Unix toolchain shell scripts — used by the legacy Unix toolchain, not by the Compilers), create_links.sh (legacy lowercase-symlink helper — the Compilers now create the symlinks themselves on first compile, so this script is only needed for legacy Python pipelines), and a few config files (ibsfsr, ibsprof, ibsprof.bat, work/) that are unrelated to the Compilers.

Used By

The Compilers (Compilers → Getting Started) read this working copy via the SQL_SOURCE field in each profile in settings.json. The set_profile wizard accepts a literal path entry (e.g. C:\Users\you\ir_local on Windows, /home/you/ir_local on Linux/macOS).
