Configuring F1 Context Help

Configuring F1 Context Help

Since 08.90

Pressing F1 anywhere in SBN opens Atlas in the user's default browser. The browser lands on a search results page keyed to the active form's name, so the operator gets help relevant to whatever they were looking at without having to navigate Atlas manually.

F1 only works when both Wiki URL and Wiki Token are configured in the SBN options. Out of the box these values are blank, so F1 does nothing until an administrator sets them.

What Happens When a User Presses F1

  1. SBN identifies the active form (e.g. the Personnel form, the Account form, the Alarm Log).
  2. SBN strips the form's file prefix and _form suffix to produce a keyword (e.g. bapersonnelform > personnel).
  3. SBN reads the Wiki URL and Wiki Token options.
  4. SBN builds a URL: <Wiki URL>?search=<keyword>&token=<Wiki Token>.
  5. SBN launches the browser with that URL. Atlas validates the token and shows search results for the keyword.

If either option is missing, blank, or wrong, the browser will land on a generic search page or an authentication error and the operator will not see context-relevant help.

What You Need

Setting

Where it lives

Value

Wiki URL

Options program 1887 > option wiki_url

https://support.innovative247.com/help

Wiki Token

Options program 1887 > option wiki_tok

a 64-character hexadecimal string

The Wiki URL is the same for every SBN user at your site -- it points to Atlas. Use https://support.innovative247.com/help.

The Wiki Token is a single shared token that all SBN workstations at your site use to authenticate against Atlas. Innovative supplies this token, or your SRM administrator can produce one from SRM > Edit User > Wiki tab > Copy for a designated service-account user. Treat it like a password: anyone with the token can read your Atlas pages.

Setting the Options

The options live in the Options program (program 1887). Any user with administrative rights can change them. Changes take effect the next time SBN starts.

Step-by-step

  1. Log in to SBN as a user with administrative rights (the user must have permission to change Options).
  2. Open program 1887 -- open Go To Program and enter 1887.
  3. Locate the row for option wiki_url and set the value to https://support.innovative247.com/help.
  4. Locate the row for option wiki_tok and paste the 64-character token Innovative supplied (or that your SRM administrator produced from SRM > Edit User > Wiki tab > Copy).
  5. Save and close.
  6. Restart SBN on the workstation you're testing on (the option values are loaded once at start-up and cached for the session).

Verifying F1 Works

  1. Open any data-entry form in SBN -- for example the Personnel (1811) form.
  2. Press F1.
  3. Your default browser opens a new tab. The URL contains ?search=personnel&token=....
  4. Atlas shows search results for "personnel". If you are taken to the Atlas home page with no search applied, the URL is correct but the keyword extraction did not run -- confirm the form had focus when you pressed F1.
  5. If the page shows a sign-in prompt or an "invalid token" message, the token is wrong or no longer valid -- see Troubleshooting below.

Troubleshooting

F1 opens the browser but Atlas asks me to sign in. The token in wiki_tok is invalid. Get a fresh token from Innovative or from your SRM administrator (SRM > Edit User > Wiki tab > Regenerate, then Copy) and paste it into option wiki_tok in program 1887. Restart SBN.

F1 opens the browser but no help comes up -- just a generic search page. Either wiki_url is wrong, or the form's name didn't match an Atlas page keyword. Verify the URL in wiki_url is https://support.innovative247.com/help exactly. If the URL is correct, Atlas simply does not yet have a page that matches that form's name -- that is a content gap, not a configuration problem.

F1 does nothing -- the browser doesn't open. Either wiki_url is blank, or your default browser is misconfigured. Open program 1887 and confirm wiki_url has a value. If it does, copy the URL into a browser address bar manually -- if the browser doesn't open even then, fix the workstation's default-browser association.

F1 used to work and now doesn't. Most often this means an SRM administrator regenerated the token (SRM > Edit User > Wiki tab > Regenerate). The old value of wiki_tok is now invalid. Get the new token and update option wiki_tok in program 1887. Restart SBN. The token is shared by every workstation at your site, so the same update fixes F1 for everyone.

F1 works on one workstation but not another. Both workstations share the same wiki_url and wiki_tok values from the database, so the configuration is identical. Differences are usually local: a different default browser, an outdated SBN executable that hasn't reloaded the options cache, or a network/proxy block on Atlas. Restart SBN on the broken workstation first; if that doesn't fix it, test the URL <wiki_url>?token=<wiki_tok> directly in that workstation's browser.
